How to Brew Drip Bag Coffee: A 2-Minute Guide

Drip bag coffee is one of the simplest ways to make a fresh cup at home, in the office or while travelling. You need only a cup, hot water and one individually portioned drip bag—no grinder or coffee machine.

Shop the coffee in this guide: Black Forest Drip Bag Coffee, with dark chocolate, cocoa and nutty notes.

What you need

  • One Black Forest drip bag
  • A sturdy cup with enough room for the bag to hang above the coffee
  • 150–180 ml of water at about 90–93°C

How to brew drip bag coffee

  1. Tear and hang. Tear along the marked line, open the paper handles and secure the bag centrally on your cup.
  2. Bloom the coffee. Wet the grounds with about 30 ml of hot water and wait 20 seconds. This helps the water flow more evenly.
  3. Pour slowly. Add the remaining water in two or three gentle pours, keeping the water level below the top of the bag. Aim for a total brew time of about two minutes.
  4. Remove and taste. Lift out the bag without squeezing it. Taste before adding milk or sugar.

Adjust your next cup

If the coffee tastes too strong, use a little more water next time. If it tastes thin, use less water or pour more slowly. Avoid leaving the bag immersed like a tea bag; the extraction can become bitter.

Why Black Forest works as a drip bag

Black Forest’s dark chocolate richness and nutty undertones make a full-bodied cup without equipment. The same blend is also available as coffee beans, whole or ground to order and Nespresso-compatible capsules.
